2010.... Let GOD arise ...

This blog may have been intended to talk about my hair, but I will always be/talk about so much more than that,
At this time it is so strong in me to give thanks to God for making it through this year, that is not a cliche but a fact! The last two years have been hell, In a way that I could have never imagined or anticipated, testing the very faith and trust I have in God, bringing me to question if I ever really knew him, my salvation, so very close to the brink, too close! I love the Lord but could not understand his ways and what he was doing. I even permitted the opinions of man (in the form of the 'church' ) to make me doubt the God I know to have kept me all these years. This time last year I was devastated, hurting and did not want to face another year ... BUT GOD!!!!
The word says '...I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread...', GOD had a plan and a purpose, and while going through it all I could NOT SEE, I cannot say that I was strong and trusted God, I was afraid and cried a LOT!  ... BUT GOD!!!!

Now I sit here and God had me find my prayer points for last year and he has answered EVERY ONE OF THEM!!! He is was and will always be faithful. One or two  are in process, but I still consider that an answer! while going thru we never understand why until the end result and all is revealed, I still do not have all the answers, but prayer point one has been answered in full, and that was for God to restore my faith, trust and relationship with HIM better than it was before ... I am entering 2010 and the next phase of my life, my promise and land with strides as I hold his hand, he has arisen for me and heard my cry. I know that the coming year/years of my life are NOW the very best years of my life and that I will see the glory of the Lord in the land of the living and my fruit shall remain and I shall never again be ashamed This is the set time of Gods vengeance and recompense, even favour in my life and the struggle is truly over.

PRAISE BE TO THE ALMIGHTY FOR HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS!!!!!!!

****MAY YOUR NEW YEAR BE FILLED WITH THE FAVOUR, PEACE AND LOVE OF GOD****

Milan Ford

Well, here we are. Today is Thursday, December 31st.

The very last day of the year 2009. And what a year it was.

It seems like only yesterday that many of us joined up with millions of people across the nation this time last year to gather inside of our respective local churches for some form of New Year's Eve or Watch Night Service. And although there are times when the variations of our church annual themes and proclamations can make God sound a bit schizoid to the ears of the unbeliever, for the most part, many of us heard a message that evening about the significance of the year 2009.

2009. The year of (yep, that's right)...

...New Beginnings.
From areas of relationships to finance, issues of health and areas of leadership, the hope for a New Beginning was indeed high on the hearts and minds of believers both young and old this year.
Now I am not in any way what you call the greatest practitioner of biblical numerology, but last year around this time, I remember doing a little research about the significance of the number nine (9).
What I found was actually very interesting. The number nine (9) literally means: to bring to an end. In fact, in one instance, I found that the number (9) means: to bring a judgment (or conclusion) to. I think I'll repeat that one more time...
To bring to an end.

To bring to a conclusion.

To bring a judgement to.
Those aren't exactly the kind of words people pack out a sanctuary or tear up a few pews in order to hear at the beginning of a new year. New Year phrases like 'the year of divine favor,' or 'the year of a new beginning' tend to have a better ring to them.
About a month or so ago, I heard probably one of the most powerful faith statements I had ever heard in my life. It is one that I pray becomes a staple for every believer reading this devotional today as we prepare for the beginning of a new year.
"God's sovereignty does not excuse our apathy."
While I realize we all are looking forward to a great harvest in 2010, please know that this harvest in many respects will be a result of the seeds we have sown throughout 2009.
2009 (for many of us) should have been a year to put an end to our excuses. A year that you and I should have ceased from blaming any oppressor (spiritual or natural) from hindering us from accomplishing the goals and dreams we set out for earlier this year.
2009 was not a year to be lazy. Or vulnerable. This year (for many of us) should have been a year that many of us for the first time in our lives became (sorry for the dirty word here)... responsible.
On tonight, be careful not to become too consumed with asking God (yet again) to begin some new things in your life, without examining the things He has also told you to bring to an end this year.
You still have a few hours left to cancel some of those credit cards you know you need to stop using. A few hours left to 'unfriend' that person you know God has told you to stop chatting with online. A few hours left to email that proposal you've been sitting on now for weeks to your boss.
In fact, there's even a few hours to call that relative of yours you know God has told you to apologize to and mend the relationship. It may be tough to do, but it is time to get it done.
I realize there are a plethora of scriptures many of us will probably be given on tonight concerning what God may have in store for us next year, but I want to give you one that my wife and I have already taken on as a personal challenge for our family throughout 2010.
It's a dangerous one, so please don't write it down if you're not prepared for it just yet.
"If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with the horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?" Jeremiah 12:5-6
Ladies and gentlemen, whether you and I are ready or not, 2010 is here. For many of us, this will be a year that many of the things we have prayed for throughout this year will come to pass. However, for those of us who are still holding on to things (and people) God has told us to get rid of, and for those of us who have allowed 2009 to be a year where our apathy and discontentment for where our lives are right now get the best of us, then what in the world are we going to do when the 'horses' arrive?
If God decides to bless you in 2010 with that 'new job' you've been asking for, are you prepared for it? If God decides to bless your business or church with incredible growth in 2010, did you position yourself properly this year to receive it? Or perhaps for some of you reading this today who are still waiting for God to send you a spouse, will you be able to identify him or her when they come, or is your focus still on holding on to those 'safe alternatives' from your past?
Family, enough is enough. No more excuses.

To be quite honest...I am tired of making them. And if you're like me, tired of hearing them too.

The horses...are here!! SADDLE UP.

Make Plans for the Next Victory

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day"

(Joshua 14:12, NKJV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

In the Bible, Caleb helped lead the people of Israel into their Promised Land. But I love that Caleb didn't just stop there. When he was 80 years old, he said, "God, give me another mountain." He was saying, "God, give me something else to do. Give me another assignment." Notice, he was planning on living out his life in victory. He could have said, "God, just let me retire. Man, my back's hurting. I can hardly see anymore. Medicare wouldn't pay that latest prescription. I'm so aggravated." No, he was strong. He was energetic; he was ready for the next challenge.

Friend, no matter how old or how young you are, God has another assignment for you. You wouldn't be here if God didn't have a purpose for you. I believe that this next year is going to be your best ever. Make plans for the next victory. Make plans to increase in influence, abundance, and favor. Choose today to live full of joy, peace, strength, and health; and take a step of faith into the life of victory He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, thank You for creating me and giving my life purpose.

Help me discover the gifts and talents You've placed within me so that I can use them to Your glory and move forward into the life of victory You have prepared for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

He is Strong in You

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness…"

(Romans 8:26 NLT)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Sometimes, people get distracted by what they consider to be a disadvantage or weakness in their lives. It may be something about their personality or looks that they don't like. Or maybe they've been through an unfair situation: a divorce, a bad business deal, or a bad break. We all have things that can feel like disadvantages; things that make it harder on us. It may even be a physical handicap where you can't get around like you used to.

But just because you have a "disadvantage," just because you've been through a tough time, doesn't mean you're supposed to sit back and settle where you are. God still has something great for you to do! He wants to show Himself strong in and through you. The Holy Spirit wants to help you when you feel weak. If you will stay in faith and not get negative toward yourself or your future, then God can take what you think is a liability and turn it into an asset. What you think is a disadvantage God will turn around to be an advantage so you can move forward into the abundant life He has for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, today I give You all that I am. I invite You into the weak places in my life so that You can turn them into strengths. Thank You for working in my life and filling me with faith and expectancy. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Make the Right Plans

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed"

(Psalm 20:4, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

The Bible tells us that true faith has actions with it. A lot of times people say they believe one way, but with their actions, they're doing just the opposite. We have to understand that faith will work in either direction. I know some people make plans to get the flu. They talk about it and say, "Every year I get the flu." Or, "It's going to be bad this year." They expect it and a few months later, they've got it. Their faith worked. They believed, they expected, they made plans, and they got it. But instead of making plans for the worst, why don't you make plans for the best. Why don't you make plans for the Word of God to come to pass in your life? The scripture says, "No weapon formed against us is going to prosper." "A thousand may fall at my side, ten thousand at my right hand; but it will not come near my dwelling."
Today, make plans according to the Word of God. As you make right plans, you'll see right things come to pass in your life. You'll rise up higher and enjoy the blessings God has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
"Father God, I confess that I need You today. Search my heart. Help me see any area where my faith is working in the wrong direction. I desire to make plans in agreement with You so that I can partake of the good things You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

The great unwashed ...

On a slightly lighter note. School is out! Soo to help my hair lock I have decided to TRY my hardest NOT to wash my hair until my big all dayer with my consultant in January. I mean ain't no one around to smell it right?... ;o)
Also I am not manipulating my hair in ANY way. No twisting or braiding or anything else, just leaving it to loc's up like the old fashioned way no washing (sulk!)! No playing in or assisting freestyle ... just get up and go ... then get down and sleep, spritzing only with water and lemon juice.
This will not be too difficult because I am a bit under the weather, soo intend to rest up a lot to recouperate. Thank God for tesco, sainsbury, marks and spencer, body shop, amazon, la senza and pak DOT COM!!! LOL!!! I have all I need at my finger tips!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year / Happy Holidays to all who celebrate it x

I am proud to say I have attended a total of ZERO shops and have ALL the presents and food I need ... tee hee. Everything is nicely marinating in the fridge as I type, and am currently empathising with all my sisters getting hit in the rear by crazy christmas shoppers, trust me Christ ain't got nuttin to do with it!

Serious note ...

Ok. I need to blog this, but do not know what title to give it, However I need to ...

I am Asthmatic.

So are many other people ... big deal ...!?

Yes well for many years I have not taken it seriously and paid no attention to it, I made sure I had my blue ( salbutamol) inhaler but never really used it regularly, neither did I attend asthma clinic like I was advised to by my then, Dr ... ( who when I last saw him 5 years ago gave me a good telling off for being so slack about it all!!!) 5 years ago you say??? yes that was when I qualified as a teacher and got too stressed and busy to bother ...! Then I moved again and registered at a new surgery. That was 3 years ago and apart from the initial check up never saw them again ...
Can you see a pattern? yes, I have an aversion to Docs, hospitals etc, Even had my last 2 babies at home (or tried to with the 4th) I think it was part faith (???!!!) part I am fine and can get over whatever it is ...

Anyhow ...

I had tightening in the chest .... tired easily ... coughs that would last for weeks, even months. Most of all was the cough (choking ...) in the middle of the night.  All these symptoms I IGNORED!

Well ...

Saturday evening I was coughing hard, had been for weeks, and as usual it got worse at night. a close friend was with me and asked me if I had asthma, they knew I did, and where was my pump?. I could not find one anywhere in the house OR car? My friend was NOT impressed, and said I needed to sought it out!

Thank GOD for the people in your life, some are there for a very good reason ...If we did not have that conversation I would have thought nothing of it (just a cough or chest infestion) and would not have realised I had no inhaler or gone to the doctor ...

Monday I got worse, called the surgery who gave me an appt for Tuesday first thing. I saw the Dr who did her checks, my peak flow was half what it should be ...

I left the surgery with a permanent daily brown preventer pump 2 puffs(forever without fail!) AND a blue 6 puffs per day!

Tuesday I was not very well, and my children were ... affected. It could have been a lot worse but I had the meds just in time. I had a rough day and still feel bit low now.

The gist of all this is to say, as wives, mothers, women etc. Pay attention, love, take care and look after yourselves.

I don't know who, if anyone, needs this but I am putting it out there...

Run and Not Grow Weary

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount to up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired"

(Isaiah 40:31, AMP)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Do you sometimes feel like there is so much on your plate that you are constantly running to get it all done? There are seasons when we need to go the extra mile and give it our all, and there are seasons to rest and rejuvenate. I love what today's scripture tells us—that during those times when it's necessary; we can run and not grow weary!

What are you facing that seems to be taking all your energy? Wait on the Lord today. Expect, look for, and hope in Him. The Bible promises that when you live with expectancy, when you stay hopeful, when you make preparations for the goodness of God, you'll rise up higher. Your strength will be renewed. In other words, you will overcome life's challenges.

You may have difficulties today, but if you can just get up every morning expecting God to turn it around, staying positive and hopeful; then God promises you will rise up higher into the strength and victory He has in store for you.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, thank You for giving me Your strength and power. I receive it right now, by putting my trust and hope in You. I know that with You all things are possible. In Jesus' Name. Amen"

Protect Your Seed

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease"

(Genesis 8:22, AMP)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Did you know that when we say prayers, when we are believing God for something, it's like planting spiritual seeds? It's a principle that God established at the beginning of time. We determine the harvest we have in our lives by the seeds we sow.

In the natural, think about how the farmer waits for his harvest. He knows that if he protects his seed he will get an abundant harvest. He waters it, pulls the weeds, and keeps the soil soft.

In the same way, we have to protect our spiritual seed. We can't allow the “weeds” of negative thinking to come in. We have to pull them out by simply saying, “God, I know You're faithful. My trust and confidence is in You.” We have to water our seed by staying full of praise. We have to keep an attitude of faith and expectancy. That's how we protect our seed. And when you protect your seed, when you stay in faith and keep the right attitude, it won't be long before you see that harvest of blessing in every area of your life.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. I declare that my trust and confidence is in You. Thank You for hearing my prayers. I know that the seed of Your Word will produce an abundant harvest in my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Make Preparations

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"…Prepare the way for the Lord;

(Isaiah 40:3, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Everyone goes through seasons of waiting. A lot of times, people just sit back and wait for God to do everything. But you have to remember to do your part and make preparations. You have to talk like it's going to happen and act like it's going to happen. Some people might say, "Well, Joel, what if I do this and it doesn't happen?" But I say what if you do and it does happen? And even if things don't turn out the way you had hoped, you'd still be better off living your life positive and hopeful than you would to go around down and discouraged.

I love what David said in the Bible, "God, my times are in your hands." He was saying, "God, I don't know when it's going to happen, but I know You know what's best for me." So I'm going to go out today expecting good things. And even if it doesn't happen, I'm not going to go to bed all disappointed. I'm going to go to bed knowing that I'm one day closer to seeing my dreams and desires come to pass!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, I dedicate this day to You. Show me how to prepare for You to move in my life. Help me guard my words and thoughts as I put my trust in You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Perspectives :)

Well, even if the curls ARE in a state of rebellion ( after all, they are MY curls ...what else could I expect from them?) they are healthy natural curls and an experience I have not encountered since my baby/childhood.

Soo ... my focus today will be ....  OOh! ... how my hair has grown! Well that was the expression from my eldest son who actually FOLLOWED me into the bathroom with an amazed look on his face, He never knew my natural hair could grow that fast :))) So lets focus on the positive of this experience, and give thanks anyhow! :o)

9am the morning after .. 29 June(below)                                                           second retightening August

Oh Dear!

Just make this quick and painless as possible. Brown Buttah you were so right! although I have locs that are loc'ing up especially on the crown, I unfortunately have a major resistance going on and I mean MAJOR!
I officially have very soft hair, so soft in fact that it is doing all that it can to UNLOCK!!! it is unravelling from the ends enough for my consultant to be quite concerned and she will be taking me back in her OWN hands!
Liz is lovely and she explained it through and through and says it is nothing i did just my hair type.
So much so that I was suppose to take the Retight Class on my next appointment but have to wait.
Liz has booked me an all day appointment to go through and work on every loc to help them on their way. Liz even asked if I can put off washing for as long as possible, I should!!!!! sigh ...:o|
Oh well ...

Waiting the Right Way

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"…faith without works is dead"!!!!!!

(James 2:20, NKJ)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Are you waiting for God to do something in your life? One thing I've learned is that waiting should not be a passive thing. When we're waiting the correct way, we're on the lookout. We talk like what we are believing for is going to happen. We act like it's going to happen. We're making preparations.

It's just like when you're expecting someone for dinner; you don't wait till they show up before you decide to start cooking. Most likely you start early in the day. You make sure the house is clean, you go to the grocery store, and maybe you buy some flowers for the table. You make preparations because you're expecting someone. Well, that's the attitude we need to have while we're waiting for God's promises to come to pass. As you put actions behind your prayers, your faith comes alive and opens the door for God to move mightily on your behalf.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, I choose to put actions behind my faith today. I trust that You are at work in my life. I will wait the right way—with expectancy—knowing that my faith in You opens the door for Your hand to move in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

As You Wait

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord's return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen."

(James 5:7, NLT)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

God has put dreams and desires in every person's heart. But most of the time, there's a season of waiting involved. Maybe you're waiting for a relationship to improve; waiting to get married; waiting for a promotion; or waiting to overcome an illness. Much of life is spent waiting. But there's a right way to wait, and there's a wrong way to wait. Too often, when things don't happen on our timetable, we get down and discouraged or anxious and fretful. That's because we’re not waiting the right way.

Notice that today's verse doesn't say if you wait, it says as you wait. The fact is we're all going to wait. It goes on to say that we should consider how the farmer waits—patiently and eagerly. We're not supposed to sit around discouraged; we're supposed to be hopeful, positive, and full of expectancy!

Today, no matter what you are believing for, expect things to change in your favor. Today could be the day that God turns it all around. As you wait with patience and expectancy, you'll open the door for God to move. He'll fight your battles, and you'll see that abundant harvest He's promised in every area of your life.
A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, today I choose to wait expectantly for You. I trust that You are working behind the scenes on my behalf. I put my trust and hope in You knowing that You have good things in store for my future. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Just Pictures.

This evening, engaged in one of my favourite activities ... handsinlocitis ... Just below, images of first thing in the morning til evening.

Suddenly ...!

I am loc'ing up ... fast!
(By this I mean loc's are firm with sealed ends).

over the last 2 weeks there has been a drastic change in the texture of my loc's. Reading snippets on LIU and various fave blogs, budding has been in mass progress! oddly enough as people were discussing budding (teenage stage  if I remember correctly) I had them on EVERY  loc end.
Must say have been budding for at least 3 months but they never really stayed. But suddenly, even the freshly done slipped locs have them and they are not shedding! My locs are also not so soft, courser in texture and drier to the touch. I wonder if its the cold weather? It has not been terribly cold but we have had bucket fulls of rain for days on end. I HAVE to spritz daily too.

Each loc has puffed up, and where I had noticed my coils were intense smooth and silky in places,  they have now frizzed up and disappearing into loc's. I did read somewhere that coily textures can loc faster, but I did not expect it at this rate. I guess when it starts the process can be rapid ...

I am three days before my next retight which marks 6.5 months (202 days he hee).
My first loc at the back is now not as obvious as before, as many others - at the back especially - loc up drop down and aim to match it in length and texture.
As I randomly play around and massage various loc's around my head, I find a lot loc'd (or very close to) at the crown of my head, probably helped by sleep positioning.

I also went to sleep a few times without covering my hair at night. One day last week without using my usual 2 hair bands, just free. ( My consultant had said I should but I did not trust what it would look like in the morning or how it would turn out) It was ok, had to spritz even after showering tho. I have taken pics and will post them thoughout today... after I make dinner :o)

Take the Limits Off !

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
'They turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel'
(Psalm 78:41, KJV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
We serve a God of increase! He wants to do new things in our lives. We should always be rising to new levels, but it's so easy to get stuck in a rut and just settle for the status quo. Sometimes we think, 'Well, I've reached my limits. I've gone as far as I can go. This is as happy as I'll ever be.' But if we're going to continue to increase and really experience God's best, we have to get our thinking lined up with God's thinking.
It's interesting that in this scripture the people limited the Holy One of Israel. Think about that. How can the all-powerful God, the Creator of the Universe, be limited? By our thinking. He can be limited in our lives by what we believe. A lot of people don't realize today it's their own wrong thinking that's keeping them in mediocrity.
Today, take the limits off by choosing to believe God! Feed your faith by studying His Word. As you meditate on His promises with an open and humble heart, you'll see Him move mightily in your life, and you will experience the blessings He has prepared for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
'Father God, today I choose to believe You. I take the limits off by trusting that You have good plans for my future. I invite You to search my heart and remove anything that isn't pleasing to You. I bless You today and always. In Jesus' Name. Amen. '"

Your Destiny Supersedes Your Mistakes

God's plan for our lives isn't dependent on having to be perfect, never making a mistake or never taking a wrong turn. When you make a mistake, God isn't shaking His head saying, "I never dreamed he would do that. He ruined My plan." The scripture says God knows the end from the beginning. That means He knew every mistake we would ever make. Nothing that you've done or any mistakes that you have made or ever will make is a surprise to God. He already knew when we were going to turn left even when He said turn right. He knew when we were going to hang around someone even though He warned us they would be a bad influence. God knew every poor choice. The good news is He had already planned a way to get you back on His best path for your life. He has grace for every weakness and mercy for every failure. Failure is not final. Mistakes don't have to keep us from our destiny. God's plan can override every setback. You may have failed a thousand times, but God has not written you off and cancelled your destiny. Your mistakes do not disqualify you from God's plan for your life. He still has a way to get you to your final destination.

Exceedingly Abundantly

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever"
(Ephesians 3:20-21, NKJ)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

God wants to do exceedingly abundantly above all you can ever ask, think, or imagine. In another place, it says that no person has ever seen, heard, or even imagined the wonderful things that God has in store for those who love the Lord. But notice that it's according to the power working in us. God's power works in us by our faith or how we believe. Do you believe today that God wants to work in your life exceedingly abundantly above all you could ask or think? Do you believe He wants to overwhelm you with His goodness and blessing?

The Bible says that if we have faith the size of a tiny mustard seed, we can move mountains. And no matter how much faith we have, faith can grow in us by hearing, studying, and receiving the Word of God.
I encourage you today, make God's Word a priority. Believe that He will do exceedingly abundantly above all you can ask or think. He is faithful to His Word, and He will be faithful to fulfill every promise He's made to you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Heavenly Father, thank You for Your goodness in my life. Thank You for blessing me and for doing exceedingly abundantly above all I can ask or think. Thank You for increasing my faith as I focus on Your Word. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Six months later, compliments and observations.

On the 27th I had a lovely encounter with a complete stranger, her name is Simone, I attended an appointment in Watford at a centre and she is a receptionist there. We said our good mornings and then she said she had to tell me that she thought my hair was absolutely beautiful and she loved it! I was taken aback, she said she envied me! (this lady is English in heritage with long thick black hair which I thought was lovely myself!!!) She said it was good to see a black woman with hair like mine as opposed to BW with relaxed hair which she thought all looked the same. She said she hoped I would not be offended by her comments! We spent half an hour talking hair and me explaining sisterlocks! Friday was a great day for many reasons but that was the start of it and it helped to make my day!!!

The 28th saw my loc's hit six months old. I actually have a few that are completely loc'd. The first one being at the very corner of the nape of my neck. It is clearly longer than the rest, my consultant said it could be because it got wet the most while showering etc and mostly rubbed against my clothes too that helped it loc faster.

After blog surfing, I decided to try something different. I washed my hair before retight ... at first it was ok, but then a week later I found my head really itchy which had not happened before. I also found my scalp dryer. So, I tried another first ... I washed my hair again... (NEVER washed my hair twice in a month) and am now very happy! Shhh dont tell my consultant because she did not give her permission! mainly because my hair is still very soft.

Another thing I did was dilute my shampoo in a spray bottle, that could have also reduced the effect of the shampoo (neutrogena) which usually works really well for me. I LOVE PRODUCTs and on saturday EMPTIED my collection of nexus and ORS shampoo and conditioners into my daughters bags (at least £100 worth of products!) I know I would not be able to use them again if I am to avoid build up, so off they went! Needless to say Kay was VERY happy! I must say though that every time I read about a product on a blog I REALLY want to try it!!! Especially Gigglz favoutite Oyins berries products she kept talking about! The problem is that product is not available in England!
I confess I cannot wait for my hair to loc completely so I can make the most of my natural hair!
I am very much into hair and skincare products and have a stash of ALL my favourites, I mean ALL and I mean STASH!

My loc's are getting longer and I was getting bored with the freestyling, so for a time I tried a twist out, I think that made my hair unravel (slip) a bit and I had to have a few replaced. So now I loosely twist once or twice a week if I feel like it or put it up in two loose bunches and go to bed! The bunches dont pull on the hair as much as the twists and when I let the hair down it has more body and a bounce.

The locks at the back of my head have a lot of 'movement' and blow in the wind LOL! My loc's are doing very well, my hair has grown a lot which I am very happy with them.

I will post pics as soon as possible, not up to taking pictures at the moment, a very eventful period in my life, soo much happening and I am in deep reflection on everything! But most of all we finally laid my close friend to rest on  monday, really tired, was an exhausting day, but God Is Good!

Thanks to all my followers who are interested in my progress! you are appreciated!

Missing a friend

This has been an amazing period in time. Not for altogether good reasons, but in all GOD is getting so much Glory! This period could be difficult but GOD has truly worked all things together for good. He is Great.

I find it difficult to write about, mainly because of privacy to the individual, But I recently lost a close friend at the age of 27 years. Until now there had been no funeral arrangements, It has been a very sensitive time for me. Even to the point I felt I could not do anything where I would be 'socialising'.
However I had tickets to see Maxwell last friday night. I struggled no end, thinking it was wrong to have fun when he had not even been laid to rest. I know J.. would have been ecstatic to know I even GOT tickets in the first place! I found it so hard though. In the end though we had a great night.

Maxwell was amazing, what a performer! and very humble, he appeared surprised to even have so many fans in London. no hype, no glitz, just great talent. The best concert ... I think ever! Just my sort of thing.

Bittersweet, would best describe this time/ season.

Today I thought I heard J's laughter in our staffroom, sometimes I think, I need to speak to him, or ask him a question, then remember he is not there. However on the other hand there is so much love and support around. We are all very much closer and more caring since we lost him. Why do we wait to lose people before we love? Then forget so quickly the pain of our loss, and eagerly try to hurt one another again. I guess in the end, we will learn.

In life J had a very big heart, The Irony of that statement is that, that was how/why he died. I did not realise that lots of people would go to him for manly advice, he was a good listener, kind, caring.
I miss him very much. R I P ... J H.
Last night we found out the funeral date, finally.  I felt relieved, that I was going to have to go through the next phase of loss. It is in times like this that God has made his very presence felt, and I am very grateful.

Press Past Adversity

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries"

(I Corinthians 16:9, NKJ)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Are you walking by faith or sight today? In other words, are you choosing to believe God no matter what your circumstances look like, or are you making decisions and focusing your mind on what you can see.

Remember, it's always darkest right before the dawn appears. I believe that you are about to give birth to that promise. The enemy sees the supernatural doors that are opened before you, and he will try his hardest to get you to quit, give up, and settle where you are. But if you'll just keep pressing past that adversity, if you'll keep praising, believing, and confessing God's promises, you'll make it through. You'll come out wiser and stronger, and you'll embrace every good thing God has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, thank You for the open doors You have prepared for me. I recognize that these challenges have not come to stay; they have come to pass. I choose to stand strong in You, knowing that You have blessing and victory in store for my future. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

What To Do in Times of Trouble

Friday, November 13, 2009

Bishop Keith Butler
For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15 (KJV)

Do you know what time it is? It is time to give God thanks because He is your Deliverer! In the time of trouble, you have to abound in thanksgiving to God. Thank Him for protection. Thank Him for provision. Thank Him for your food. Thank Him for your job. Thank the Father whether or not it looks like things are working. When you do, you release His ability and power.

In 2 Corinthians 4:16 it says, "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not s een: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." (KJV)

We have no need to faint and no need to fear. When we are in Christ, we don't gauge our future by what the stock market does. We don't gauge our future by what the news reporters say. We gauge our standing in this life by the word of God which lives and abides forever.

So I'm telling you today, don't look at all the things you are reading in the newspaper. Instead look to God. You may not see God, but you know He's there. You know He makes a way for you. So begin to thank Him for doing it right now.

In 2 Thessalonians 1:6 it says "it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you." In other words, God is going to trouble your trouble. In 2 Thessalonians 2:2 it says, "That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand ."

So, know what time it is and don't be troubled. Don't be frightened. Don't be full of fear. God is pleased by our thanksgiving, and He will move in our situation. It is time now to thank God for delivering us by His mighty power!

Walk by Faith

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"For we walk by faith, not by sight"
(II Corinthians 5:7, NKJV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Are you walking by faith or sight today? In other words, are you choosing to believe God no matter what your circumstances look like, or are you making decisions and focusing your mind on what you can see.

As believers, we have to remember that we aren't just subject to this natural realm–what we can see, hear, touch, and smell. No, we have access to the unseen, supernatural realm where all the promises and blessings of God are stored. When you choose to walk by faith, you are opening a door from the natural realm to the supernatural realm and drawing the blessings of God into your life.

Remember: with God seeing isn't believing; believing is seeing! Throughout the day, begin to declare, "Father, I want to thank You that my payday is coming. You said no good thing will You withhold because I walk uprightly. I believe even right now You're arranging things in my favor." As you walk and live by faith, you will live a life pleasing to God. You'll see His blessing and favor in abundance, and you'll fulfill the destiny He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
"Heavenly Father, today I choose to walk by faith. I choose to believe Your Word no matter what things look like in the natural. I know You are working behind the scenes, and You will open up doors of blessing and favor in every area of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

You've Come Too Far

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward"

(Philippians 3:14, AMP)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

One thing I've learned is that whenever life seems extra difficult, whenever it seems like the intensity has been turned up, that's a sure sign that you are close to your victory. Whenever negative thoughts are bombarding your mind, or you're tempted to get discouraged, that's not the time to give up! That's not the time to back down. That's the time to dig your heels in. That's the time to press on with a new attitude because you are closer than you think to your victory.

Maybe you've had a lot come against you lately. It seems like the more you pray, the worse things get. Maybe you are doing the right thing, but the wrong thing keeps happening. Instead of getting discouraged, begin to declare, "I've come too far to stop now! I've been through too much to back down. I realize the reason the intensity has been turned up is because I'm about to give birth to my dreams."

Friend, don't allow the enemy to steal from you any longer! Instead, press on toward the goal because you've come too far to give up now. Remember, God Almighty is with you, and He is leading and guiding you down the path of victory in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Heavenly Father, thank You for leading with Your gentle and loving hand. Today I choose to press past my circumstances and press on into You. Give me strength and hope to move forward into the life of victory You have prepared for me! In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Payday Is On Its Way

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!"

(Hebrews 10:35, NLT)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

What are you believing God for today? Promotion? Healing? Stronger relationships? Freedom from addiction? God has promised all these things to you in His Word. He wants you to live in blessing and wholeness all the days of your life. But in order to experience His promises, we have to do our part. We have to keep believing and trusting in Him. That's what today's verse is saying: if we will stay in faith, if we will keep believing, keep hoping, keep doing the right thing, God promises there will be a reward. I like how one translation puts it, "Don't get discouraged. Payday is coming!
When you're tempted to get down, when things aren't going your way just say to yourself, "This may be hard. It may be taking a long time. But I know God is a faithful God. I'm going to keep believing because my reward is coming." Friend, as you trust Him and stand in faith, as you boldly declare His promises, you are positioning yourself to receive His blessing. No matter what your circumstances look like, remember payday is on its way—and you will experience the blessing He's promised all the days of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father in heaven, thank You for Your good and precious promises. I choose to trust that my reward is coming. I choose to follow Your commands because they lead to blessing and life. Give me a heart that is fixed on You and fill me with Your peace. I patiently wait on You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

You Are Closer Than You Think ...!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don't give up, or quit"

(Galatians 6:9, the Message)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

God has put dreams and desires in every person's heart. We all have goals we want to accomplish and situations we are believing will be turned around. Sometimes it seems to take longer than we thought. Sometimes things don't work out the way we planned, and it's easy to lose enthusiasm. Negative thoughts come to us that say, "It's never going to change." "You're never going to get well." "You're never going to get out of debt." If we're not careful, we'll get discouraged and end up just settling where we are. Many times, people miss out on God's best simply because they give up too soon. They don't realize how close they are to their victory.
Friend, don't let that be you today! Don't give up just because things seem hard. You are closer than you think! You've invested so much and you never know, just another few more days of believing, another few weeks of doing the right thing, another few months of staying in faith, and you could see that situation turn around. Remember, God is on your side! Keep standing and keep believing because you are closer than you think to fulfilling every desire He's placed inside of you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, today I come to You again, believing that You are working behind the scenes on my behalf. Give me Your strength to keep moving forward into the place of victory You have for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Lovely Lock Progress so far ...

Last weekend I spent time reading and responding to blogs. I enjoyed it! It is great to be on a journey with soo many other sisters also striving to maintain their natural crown of glory, We are all and have always been beautiful women. However, there is something to be said to have overcome the issues and prejudices related to the natural kink and curl of the hair we are born with and wearing our hair with pride and joy, the way I believe God intended us to. Like Ofo said in her recent email, I know God directed my path to locing my hair, as He has in all the other areas in my life. My God is a wholistic God, permeating every area of my life. I too prayed and asked for his guidance and as usual He exceeded my expectations, just as his word said He would. I prayed about my hair and skin (face) and healing one led to the healing of the other. It is amazing to me that as I researched sisterlocks that is when I discovered African Black Soap, originally purchased for shampooing my locks, now used consistently on my face with exceptional results.

Product Junkie ...

Alas ... I confess ... initially I began puchasing almost every recommended product deemed 'good' by my fellow loc sisters. I am also loooonging to try some other products, fortunately / unfortunately I did not realise that my own natural hair would be doing very well thank you without all the bottled crap ... all I do is wash once a month after retight! thats it! Oh and of course shower or bath steam, not even a sprtiz bottle in sight... and guess what ... or rather take a look at the results ...

Front view loc's .

Loc'd (and loc'ing) on each side at the front.

Ok ... so I know in the future I may need some of the items I bought, but not for a very loooong tiimmme!
I do admit though, I really WANT a bottle of the Organix Coconut Shampoo, ONLY because that is the scent of my whole bodycare range right now ... and anyway ... I am bored with just plain ole T Gel shampoo ... sulk!

However having read loads of different blogs I am very WARY of the risk of ruining progress and I really do not want to have half my hair unravel at this stage.

Below: A typical neck view of my locks or should I say curls? The next pic is the longest loc in this photo but streatched out to emphasise the fact that it has slipped entirely! The next pic is the longest loc
based at the nape of my neck which is locing and growing at a faster pace than the rest of my head! It does not shrink when wet. I have stopped twisting every night. I think that contributed to the slippage of one or two loc's. In my case I think less is more, no spritzing, minimum manipulation, freestyling equals faster loc'ing!  I am also suffering from 'finger twirling loc's syndrome' or better known as 'cannot keep ma hands outta ma hair' ... I LOVE the way they feel.
click on the pic below to see the natural coil. My 12 year old son said I should say that sisterlocks are the way forward!!! He is the one that took the pics for me, and also loves my hair natural (smile).

Daily Devotional ...Is Healing For All?

Dr. Frederick K.C. Price

There are seven scriptural methods whereby you can receive your healing. I believe the prayer of faith is the highest form of prayer to receive healing.
In Mark 11:24 Jesus said,
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Well, is Jesus a liar or does He tell the truth? He tells the truth! He says, "whatever things you ask...." Wouldn't that have to include healing? Yes, it does.
Therefore, it must be God's will to heal. Otherwise He could not make that kind of bold declaration. "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray"-not after you pray, not a month later, not when you see something, not when you understand it, but "when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."
If you believe you receive them you will confess that, "Bless the Lord-I believe I am healed, I believe I have received my healing." Now, once you make a faith confession you are going to get opposite from the enemy. His motive is to move you off your faith confession.
Someone might say...
"Yes, but you don't look like you are healed." I didn't say, "I look like I'm healed," I said, "I believe that I received my healing."
"Yes, but how do you feel?"
"Bless God, I am not going by how I feel-I am going by what I believe-and I believe I am healed, in Jesus' Name."
"Yes, but that doesn't make sense."
"That's right; it is not sense, it's faith."
"Yes, but that's illogical."
"You're right again; it's not logic, it's faith."
"Yes, but I just don't understand that."
"I don't understand how it works either, but I believe it is true because God said it in His Word."
Listen friend, I don't understand how television works, but I believe if I turn it on, I can watch a movie. The fact that I don't understand how it works does not stop me from enjoying the benefits of watching my favorite TV programs in living color.
I don't understand how a gasoline engine works. I don't understand how it works inside without blowing up the whole thing. Instead of blowing up it pushes a piston down that drives a crank-shaft that turns a drive-shaft to the rear wheels that turns the wheels when you put it in gear that moves the car forward. I don't understand it, but I could care less-all I want to know is that when I turn that thing on and put it in gear, it is going and that is all that I'm concerned about. How about you?
I don't know how an airplane stays up in the sky, as big as a 747 is-that thing is gigantic. How does it stay up in the air? The good news is that I don't have to understand it to get on the plane and fly from Los Angeles to Hawaii or somewhere else. All I have to do is believe the plane can fly me there, get on board and go. After all, that is what you want anyway-the results-right?
Praise God! You don't have to do any more than believe that you receive your healing based on the Word of God and you shall have it!
Is healing for all? I believe that it is so. I believe that I can walk in divine health all the days of my life. I believe and confess that I will never be sick and I'm not being presumptuous. The Bible says in Psalm 91:1, "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
I believe I'm right in there under His right wing-right up under that wing. God Himself said in verse 10, "...No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling." Whose dwelling place is God talking about? My dwelling place because I am under His shadow of protection.
What is a plague? Isn't that sickness and disease? God said, ""...No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling." Well, I guess God lied. No, He is not a man that He should lie. He went on to say, in verse 16, "With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation." Praise God! Healing is for all.
Oh, that's not to say I'm not attacked. I'm attacked. The devil just sits like a blood hound-every morning I wake up he's sitting right on the foot of the bed. Sometimes he throws that dart the right way, but it doesn't stop me and it won't stop me because I'm being strong-not in Fred Price-but I'm being "strong in the Lord and in the power of His might."

Remembering Jermaine ...

5 months living, loving this life with loc's.

Today is the 28th and marks my fifth month living with sisterlocks.

Unfortunately it coincides with the recent death of a close friend and colleague who at 27 years old died suddenly last Thursday in his sleep.

I may not have much to say for a while but will keep up posting pics when I can. Thanks again for your interest and support.

Milan Ford
The conversation began around 11:30pm.
And it ended around 4:15am.

I was sharing with my wife the other night how for the past few weeks, something rather unusual has been going on inside me. While I could not adequately describe to her what it was, I told her that it felt like it was a combination of extreme restlessness and interestingly enough, a sense of peace.

And then, after hours of emotional rambling, I said these words to my wife:

"I feel like I have gone as far as I can possibly go...WITHOUT FAITH."

I sincerely believe that where many of us are in life today is not actually a testament of our faith in God, but rather a testament of our individual skills and talents. And there (for many of us) lies the problem.

As believers, we tend to exercise our faith only in areas that we have seen God move before.

But when it comes to the unknown, our faith remains still.

Which as Hebrews 11:6 indicates, is not faith at all.

"But without faith it is impossible to Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

Sometimes I wonder if we find more security in knowing who we are or have been in times past, than we do in believing who God is. As we enter this final stretch of the year, many of us have come to the end of some rather long roads in our lives that now require faith to move forward.

As we examine our hearts and lives today, many of us must come to the realization that the skills and talents we so heavily relied on in the past can no longer move us forward.

Neither can the resumes (and perhaps associations) we worked so hard to build.

What lies before many of us now is a faith in what seems to be impossible.

A faith that fosters a sense of restlessness, yet at the same time, a sense of peace.

May you and I lean hard into that peace today.

Selection of hair shots, after 5th retightening.

After Retightening.

After washing ...

To all my followers and fellow bloggers, thank you for the interest you show in my loc progress.
I have been quiet due to 3 major events in the past week.

As you can all see there has been a growth spurt over the last 4 weeks or so, the growth is very noticable. In fact I think it is due to twisting at night as opposed to just leaving it free. My hair coils naturally and in the past had a lot of shrinkage when washed. Last night I noticed that the shrinkage was minimal, in fact one stray lock is just doing its own thing, hanging down the right side, coming from the nape of my neck. It is straight and I believe it is quietly locking all by itself ... hmmm.

Well so much for being a freestyler, I do not braid but twist (after shower) and sleep on it. It gives a subtle curl effect.

My consultant is pleased with my hair so far, I told her that sisterlocks was the best thing that ever happened to my hair! My retight is taking a little bit longer tho, or maybe I was tired.
Still only washing once a month, however, I have no dry scalp or itchy scalp conditions so not a problem.

Twist out ...

Out of the Pit.

Out of the Pit

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on the solid ground and steadied me as I walked along"(Psalm 40:2, NLT)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Do you feel like you are in a pit today? That pit can be frustration or disappointment or a feeling of discouragement, despair, or hopelessness. And maybe you can?t see a way out, but you?ve got to know that God is still with you, and He will make a way where there seems to be no way.Remember, God will never waste anything you go through in life. If you?ll keep the right attitude, He?ll turn that situation around for your good. It doesn?t matter how you got there, whether it was by your own poor choices or maybe someone else treated you unfairly, God wants to use that situation to do a work in you. He?ll take that evil and turn it around for your good. You may be uncomfortable at times, but you?ve got to know you are growing, and God is building your character.Today, make the decision to shake off any negative, self-defeating mindsets. Choose to cooperate with God. Trust that He is preparing you for promotion. As you keep an attitude of faith, expectancy, and thanksgiving, He will lift you up and set you on the solid path of victory He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, today I lift my eyes to You, for my help comes from You. Thank You for doing a work in my life. Thank You for using every situation in my life for my good. I bless You today no matter what is going on around me, knowing that You have a good plan for me. In Jesus? Name. Amen."

The Power Of The Tongue

"The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary..." (Isaiah 50:4).
It is amazing that God would empower regular folks like us with the ability to impact people around us in meaningful ways. That he would recognize that we would need access to his power to endure the perils of this journey and use us to speak a relevant Word so his people might be changed.
We have all been given the very real power of uplifting and encouraging our brothers and sisters in Christ through the Word of God. That means that we have access to the Spirit and power that resides in His Word, and it can manifest itself in our lives. When we speak over our situations, then we must also believe that the things God said will come to pass, especially when there is no evidence of it in present times.
God rarely blesses us just for ourselves, but we are conduits for him to bless his people. He understands that sometimes we need to receive understanding, a renewing word, and a timely prayer from folks whose lives reflect ours in more tangible ways. We can then appreciate that what God places in us is bigger than us and that the gift is to be used to uplift and encourage so that they may also walk in their purpose.
The experiences we have come through, though weary, have made us stronger and we can then translate that knowledge into a pathway for others to find their way.
God sent you ahead in that struggle so you could then return to his people and tell them how to survive it. And more importantly, to survive it whole. God is saying rather than ask why you went through it, recognize that he finally raised his hand to say enough. And to understand that the pain and weariness you are feeling is nothing compared to what the devil had planned for you if God had not stepped in.
See there are others who could not have handled what you went through, who would have given up facing those conditions, who wanted to die from the pain, but because of the Word God planted in you, they were able to continue the journey.
The wisdom that God has given you from your testimony was not just for you, but he trusts us to speak that into people's lives. This is so they may know his power, his love, his grace, and his presence, even when it seems we are alone. We never are alone and he needs you to remind someone of that simple truth.
And though weary from our struggles, it will be our sharing of the life changing power of God in our lives that will make the difference in these uncertain times
